Katzu is pissed off at me.
I don’t blame him.
But I don’t blame me either.
I’m not really sure what happened. It could be that he just decided that he didn’t like the food we’ve been feeding him. It could be something far more sinister and life threatening. But right now it’s just plain wrong.

The following conversation took place today as we were pulling into the Walgreen’s parking lot:
Catfish: We’re going in! We’re going in dere!
Me: We’re going in there?
Catfish: NO! Dat’s FIRE in Dere! No go iiiiin! NO!
Me: Fire? Where’s the fire?
Catfish (nodding): Pickles.

A.k.a Psychopaths are scary!
Hell on wheels was this a scary thing. Not that Fred Coe is a particularly gruesome individual but after reading this book you have no doubt that he is indeed a psychopath. The other thing about this book is that the reader gets an in-depth definition of just exactly what a psychopath is and is not. All these years I’ve been talking about certain people being “psychopaths” and it’s funny to see how many of those people actually fit the bill. Okay, well maybe not a lot but I think that’s a good thing after all.
Anyway, This is the story of Fred Coe the convicted “South Hill” rapist of Spokane, WA. The South Hill rapist terrorized neighborhoods in Spokane from 1978-1981 before the police finally caught him. It was interesting in that, at the time these crimes were taking place, rape was not considered a serious crime, at least by most of the police force. I couldn’t really say about the police women but considering the fact that any police women were probably on parking patrol, I don’t think they would have been too involved. Anyway, the police didn’t really place much emphasis on various rapes being reported even though the statistic of reported sex crimes went from less than 50 to over 175 in two years. It wasn’t until the media started making a stink about the “South Hill rapist” that the police actually had a fire lit under their ass to do anything about it. Perhaps you remember a police chief being quoted telling women that if they find that they are being raped to just “Lay back and enjoy it” I’m not even going to comment on how incredibly asinine the police acted throughout the book. They were only bested in idiocy by the main characters themselves, Fred Coe and his mother Ruth Coe.
I recommend this book to anyone without specific queasiness towards sex crimes. There isn’t a whole bunch of crudity in the book (for 2007 – I’m sure it was pretty racy back in 1982) but it is disturbing to this that all the events actually took place and that Fred Coe is still alive and, thankfully, in prison. Even more disturbing is the intricate detail of just how psychopathic this man is/was. His actions ruined the lives of many many women and to this day he is unconcerned and unwilling to admit even the smallest flaw in his character. Unbelievable as he is, he still is.
And that is the scariest part of all.
